Hello  {{user("firstname")}},

Spring is here, I just got back from a conference in Florida, and this is the April issue! Life is great.

For those of you who don't know, we always report on a significant new IR camera introduction in the April issue, and this year is no different.

I spotted this new camera, the FLIR ThermaCAM P65 MixIR, at the conference I attended last week, and wanted to get the news to you before you heard it anywhere else!

As usual we have our Message board posts, News items, and our monthly Brainteaser for you to solve.

If you have an idea for a poll you would like to see, email me your question and response choices. If we use your idea, we will send you a thank you gift.

FLIR introduces IR Camera for the Home Chef

IR in the kitchen? You bet! FLIR Systems has designed a product specifically for the thermographer/home chef with the five-speed ThermaCAM P65 MixIR.

Very portable, this mixer allows you to roam the kitchen (or factory) and mix at will. Its powerful yet lightweight motor maintains consistent beater speed even in heavy mixtures and won't bog down. The mixer comes with traditional beaters and also dough hooks for raised yeast doughs - simply change attachments to mix heavy bread doughs and delicate whites all with the same machine. The mixer is easy to clean because smooth, sleek surfaces have no seams or grooves that trap ingredients. This mixer also comes with a one-year warranty.

Of course all the image and measurement attributes of the world renowned ThermaCAM P65 are maintained as well.

Includes stainless steel Turbo Beaters and a liquid blender rod attachment to convert the mixer into a liquid blender for soups, sauces and beverages up to 32-ounces.

  IR News you can Use

Straight from the World Wide Web, here is what's going on in the world of infrared thermography.

 ITC Message Board Posts

Here is a selection of recent new threads by IR Community members. Feel free to click the links, see how people have responded, and post your own response if you like.

  • EPDM Scan
How successful are scans for EPDM roof systems. I,ve heard rumor that it is not very effective. i have a Flir ES

  • qualifications
ok, for someone who has never been around ir thermography, what kind of qualifications are we looking at?? what about color blindness?? what about other problems??

  • Salary for Thermographers
I''m at an impasse with my current employer''s H.R. dept. One of the issues that I''m facing as I try to justify the need for a full time staff thermographer is the salary range for a Level 2 & Level 3 certified thermographer. I have spent countless hours surfing the internet looking for salary surveys but find next to nothing regarding our field. Does anyone know of a reputable resource to gather this info? Unfortunately, "word of mouth" info from fellow thermographers on what they make will not suffice. Any guidance I may receive would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • finding moisture under EIFS
Has anyone had success using thermal imaging to locate moisture in OSB board located behind EFIS.

  • Relay coil temperature normal or not??
During a survey electrical cabinets we see a lot of high relay coil temperatures. Temperatures occur over the 100ºC with "normal relays" 24V DC or AC. When you look at the specs of the distributor you only get inforamtion about max. Tambient. We have one report which tells us that the temperature of the coil in air according EN 60947-5-1 should be < 100ºC with an insultion E type. Can someone tell me more about the maximum allowable temperature for these components and what makes it this high? Coulsd it be the suply voltage, or the distortion of the voltage/current?

And of course if YOU have a question or want to start a discussion on a topic, we would love to hear from you. Just post a new thread on a message board.

Brainteaser of the Month

Here is this month's brainteaser. Readers who email us the correct identification and explanation of the thermal pattern in the thermogram are entered into a drawing to win a prize from ITC. Please put "Brainteaser" as the subject of the message.

Click here to email your guess

Do you have an interesting image that you think would stump other thermographers? If so please email me your image (preferably in native .img, .jpg, .tif, .tgw, or .tmw format) with an accompanying visible photo and explanation. If your image is used, you receive a gift as well.

Last Month's Brainteaser

Last month's Brainteaser is a thermogram of a cooling tower. We had over 226 correct guesses for this one!

Roy Freeman is the winner of last month's contest, and Duwane Clark contributed the image. Both receive an ITC low emissivity traveling coffee mug and a big thanks.
