Hi {{user("firstname")}}, Well FLIR Systems has done it again, introduced a new camera that breaks price barriers, and it operates in a very popular wavelength band. Check it out at New Camera Breaks Price Barrier. Also in this issue, ITC opens a new web store and we welcome Rusty Bushee, the newest ITC Americas instructor. As usual we have our Message board posts, News items, and our monthly Brainteaser for you to solve. As with all images in this newsletter, click an image to see a larger version. FLIR Systems is proud to announce a new camera that breaks the $500 price barrier! The new OneTimIR is a single use point and shoot camera operating in the popular 4,000 to 7,500 angstrom wave band. These lightweight point and shoot cameras provide the ultimate in portability, resolution and affordability – AND REQUIRE NO BATTERIES!. “This is one cheap camera!” was overheard spoken from an unnamed Sales Manager when this product was recently introduced.
Here's how the detector works; electromagnetic photons cause a chemical change to special compounds layered on polyester acetate media inside the camera. The camera features an albedo control to compensate for differing intensities of radiation. The chemical record is very stable, and can be subsequently developed, amplified and modified to produce a representation of that moment that you can put in your photo album or your wallet, or that can be reproduced millions of times in magazines, books and newspapers. The detector is approximately 1.4 inches wide and can store up to 36000 x 10-3 images. The images are then developed at a secret laboratory and returned to the user a week or so later on a CD. The user also has the option of 24 hour service at other secret locations, usually pharmacies or large department stores. While the $500 price barrier is indeed remarkable it should be pointed out that this is a single use camera system. The focus market is infrequent users looking at very hot targets (above 500°C). FLIR IS THE ONLY INFRARED CAMERA MANUFACTURER TO OFFER DISPOSABLE CAMERAS FOR UNDER US$500! Now it's fun and easy for you to take great pictures any time--of almost anything--with FLIR System's OneTimIR cameras. They take great action and still pictures, in high and low radiation fluxes. They go everywhere--even where traditional cameras don’t dare to go.
