InfraMation 2007 Recap – More Sessions … More Papers … Great Feedback!

by Ed Metro
FLIR Staff Writer

FLIR’s InfraMation 2007 concluded its week-long sessions, presentations, and panel discussions October 19 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. More than 600 delegates, guests, and presenters visited InfraMation 2007 – the world’s largest infrared camera applications conference.

A total of 69 user-driven presentations – 16 more than last year – covered a wide range of practical uses for thermography such as: finding air leakage and water intrusion in homes, documenting restoration work after a fire, monitoring aged pipelines in petrochemical plants, analyzing operating temperatures of medical saw blades, aerial imaging of rivers and streams to address watershed concerns, and visualization of grafts to improve cardiac surgery.

New presentations covered diverse uses of infrared, from helping veterinarians identify and prevent diseases and injury, to improving energy conservation, to using FLIR cameras for coronary artery evaluation.

Several innovative uses of thermography were covered during poster presentations authored and delivered by presenters Tuesday evening in the exhibit area of InfraMation.

General sessions at Inframation 2007 were held during the morning hours, which gave attendees time to attend the information-packed clinics
that ran until 5:00 daily.

In addition to the theater general sessions at InfraMation, attendees were able to expand their knowledge and experience in infrared at clinics and exhibits that occupied the second
floor of the Orleans Hotel convention center.

Conference attendees received buffet breakfasts and lunches daily in the ballroom, where they could meet informally
with product experts at the exhibits.

The Outdoor Electrical Clinic led by Bob Rogers covered a range of training scenarios for thermographers, such as overheating switches and connections,
“fuse cut-outs,” and “wind effects on temperature.”

FLIR’s Mobile Training Unit also was on hand for the first time at InfraMation, on its way to the San Francisco bay area and southern California for an early November tour. The unit showcased FLIR’s Commercial Vision Systems products for security applications. Another attraction on display in the casino parking lot was a BMW Series 6 outfitted with a FLIR Pathfinder thermal imaging core, which demonstrated how auto safety can be improved with FLIR technology.

The proceedings and some of the many clinic manuals produced for InfraMation 2007, all in color.

Attendees to InfraMation 2007 received a 572-page color printed proceedings book and CD, which contained detailed application references. In addition, registrants to the 21 short courses received practical training materials to help them apply techniques on-the-job.

InfraMation 2008

Date: November 3-7, 2008
Location: Peppermill Resort and Spa in Reno, NV
Reno/Lake Tahoe – “America’s Adventure Land”

Should you plan on attending InfraMation 2008 in Reno? Here’s some feedback from 2007 InfraMation attendees:

“It was great to confer with other Thermographers and people interested in the industry. At every turn I picked up a new idea or new information that will help me in the use of Thermography.”

“I thought I would find it dry, technical, and boring. Instead I found the number of ways the infrared technology can be applied amazing. I left the conference inspired and excited to grow and expand my small (sideline) infrared business.”

“As a member of the press for a publication focusing on the roofing industry, I am not the prototypical attendee of the conference. I found the conference to be excellently run and well organized, and the location and amenities were first rate.”

“Everything was just first class. Being my first conference I was very impressed with the AM sessions and the PM classes I took were great. I work in the electrical utility field and through the conference, I discovered there are just a world or opportunities for someone to use the infrared camera, which I plan to pursue individually.”

“The meeting was terrific, it was very well organized, participants were adequately selected and topic of clinics and the physics show were also very interesting and useful.”

“The classes I took were very informative. I thought the papers had a lot of good information. I am looking forward to next year, and I may try to do a paper…. I gained a lot of knowledge I can use in my business.”

“This was my first experience at the IR conference and the knowledge base of attendees was overwhelming. I gained from the experiences of others similar to myself. This has increased my knowledge of infrared, and the other opportunities that are available to me and my company. The atmosphere was great, the clinics were great, the presentations were outstanding. It was just an excellent week. I really want to thank everyone from ITC and all the participants for their help with this conference.”

“It had been four years since I last attended InfraMation and I was thoroughly impressed with the improvements to the conference and also the content. I can't believe how far infrared technology has come in the past 10 years. I feel that we are just touching the surface of what this technology can do and you host the best conference as far as content, cutting-edge inspection techniques, and real live examples of how to perform such inspections with true results. I was very impressed with the presenters and the MC's of the different aspects of the conference. Nice job once again!”

Anyone who registers for InfraMation 2008 before the end of 2007 will get a $100 FREE Home Depot Gift Card and any additional benefits for next year’s Early Bird Registration Program!
